Gateway

A gateway is a company that provides the connection between a website, a terminal or any other credit card processing device and the credit card companies. A merchant connects to Gateway; a Gateway in turn connects to one or more processors to authorize/capture the transactions for the merchant.

Gateway Fees

The costs charged by processors for a gateways access to the processor payment networks that handle the financial data processing of credit card purchases.

General Packet Radio Service

(Technical)
Mobile data service available to users of GSM mobile phones. It is recognized for efficient use of limited bandwidth and is particularly suited for sending and receiving small bursts of data, such as e-mail and web browsing.
 

General Terms

Section of a contract or agreement, including any amendments or modifications.
 

Gift Card

A plastic card with an assigned dollar value issued to a cardholder for use at accepting businesses. A gift card typically replaces a paper gift certificate and may be credit/debited with funds for paying for goods and services.
 

Global System for Mobile Communications

(Technical)
Popular standard for mobile phones. The ubiquity of GSM standard makes international roaming very common between mobile phone operators, enabling subscribers to use their phones in many parts of the world.
 

Gross

When referred to in connection with transaction amounts or fees, refers to the total amount of Card sales, without set-off for any refunds or Credits.
 

Guarantor

A guarantor is a person or business entity that makes a financial promise, sometimes backed with  collateral, for another person or business entity that is requesting either a loan, credit or some form of financial responsibility for which he or it is unable to qualify on their own. In the event that the primary person or entity requesting the loan or credit defaults, the guarantor is liable for any unpaid or overdue balances.
